Attendees can enjoy a free outdoor concert by the Hollis Town Band while sampling homemade desserts—apple pies baked by band members and apple crisps prepared by the Rebels, each topped with the ever-favorite Doc Davis ice cream. Desserts will be sold by the slice, with proceeds split evenly between the two organizations.
Robin Giaconia, president of the HB Rebels, said the partnership with the band is a longstanding tradition. “This goes back years,” she said. “It’s something the Rebels really look forward to.”
She added that the experience is valuable for the athletes. “The [team members] really get a feeling of what it is for the community to give back,” Giaconia said. “They take orders, deliver desserts, and work alongside the band. It shows them what teamwork looks like beyond the mat… and they get to interact with the community in a different way than they usually do.”
During intermission, the Rebels will also take the stage with a demonstration of their cheers. “The kids love performing in front of the community,” she said. “It’s also a chance for people to see how hard they’ve been working.”
The Apple Festival is entirely volunteer-run, with parents, band members, and athletes all pitching in. “It’s like a well-oiled machine,” Giaconia said. “Everyone has a role, from baking and scooping ice cream to setting up signs and taking payments. It truly takes a community to make this happen.”
